Send Employee Surveys via SMS

Reaching employees who don't have regular access to email or a work computer can be a challenge. With SMS, you can send survey invites and reminders directly to employees' phones, making it easier to reach everyone in your organization.

How does it work?

Setting up SMS distribution involves four steps: activating the feature, managing your SMS credits, choosing who receives SMS messages, and customizing the text itself.

1. Activate the SMS feature

Contact your Customer Success Manager in order to set up the feature in your Eletive environment. Once confirmed:

Go to Settings → Features and toggle on SMS.

2. Manage your SMS settings and credits

Once activated, you'll find a dedicated SMS section under Settings. Here you can:

  • View your current credit balance
  • See a cost range estimate for the next 30 days
  • Review usage for this month, last month, and in total
  • Buy credits when you need to top up
  • Pause or resume all SMS activity
  • View a full history of transactions

3. Choose who receives SMS

Go to Settings → Notifications. Next to the SMS column for a survey, click the settings icon to open SMS settings, where you can select your Target Group:

  • Organization – sends SMS to everyone in the company
  • Segment – sends SMS only to a specific segment

4. Customize the SMS text

Go to Settings → Schedules and click on the relevant schedule. Open Customize Invite and select the Invite SMS or Reminder SMS tab to edit the message text.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • The message has a 140-character limit (GSM-7 encoding)
  • A survey link is automatically included in the text
  • You can view and edit translations for each supported language used in your organization
  • Phone number can be synced with your SCIM / HRIS integration or manually imported through the CSV mass edit file. Keep in mind that the phonenumber must have a E.164 format.
