Introduction to Custom Surveys

Ask questions completely separated from the continuous employee engagement survey.

Create your own custom survey, choose between different types of questions, and create/phrase the questions how you like. Custom surveys can be sent to a targeted segment or to the entire organization. Moreover, a custom survey has its own report, and is separate from the segment and organization engagement reports.

When to use

Custom surveys are great and really expand the possibilities to interact with the organization. Some things may only be one- or few-time things one wants to measure. What did the employees think about this year's events? Do the employees like the decorations recently done in the office? What game should we buy for the game room?

The answer: Custom Surveys!

Try a Custom Survey to get quick feedback on large and small things. Custom Surveys can also be utilized by managers for their segments if activated.

Depending on your role choose one of the two articles below and get started with the creation of your custom survey:

Note: As an administrator, it is possible to create custom surveys by following the instruction via both links above. However, they have different outcome on how results are available in the plattform.

Navigation and states

The Custom Survey feature can be found under both the Organization and Segment sections in the left side menu. The navigation of Custom Surveys consists of 3 states: Active, Closed and Drafts. Click on the different tabs to access the custom surveys that are in each current stage. If you delete a survey, you delete all data and you may no longer see the report. You can not find or re-open a deleted survey.

By clicking on the action dots to the right of the survey title, you can (depending on the custom survey state) edit, close, send reminders, launch, or delete the custom survey. If you delete a custom survey, you delete all data and you may no longer see the report. You can not find or re-open a deleted survey.

Active

The surveys that are still ongoing are placed in Active. When enough users have answered the survey, you can see the report

Closed

All closed surveys are found in Closed. A survey can be closed either by yourself or by the schedule. If enough users have answered the survey, you can see the report for the chosen survey. You can edit (but not add more questions), re-launch, and delete a closed survey

Drafts

If you create a new survey but do not complete and launch the survey at that time, you may click on Save as Draft. You will then find the survey in Drafts. If custom surveys are not enabled for managers this tab will not show.

Custom Survey Reports & the different question types

You will be able to see the results in your custom survey report, there is some information that you are always able to see at the top of each report. These metrics are:

  1. No. of questions
  2. No. of recipients
  3. Date the survey was created
  4. Status of the survey (Closed or active)

How the rest of the survey results looks depends on the structure of your survey, such as the order of the questions, the different question types and how many of your employees who have answered.

Participation rate

The first result you can see is the participation rate.

Question Types

There are 4 different question types that are available when creating questions. Below each question type is briefly elaborated on and some examples of how results can look like.

  • Multiple Choice: You can create multiple choice questions in your custom survey. You can create how many choices you wish to go with your question.
  • Text: You can create open-ended questions so that you can receive free text answers from your employees

  • NPS: You can create an NPS question of your choice, where user's answers on a 0-10 scale. Results are displayed in the same manner as for the eNPS question in the engagement survey.
