Introduction to Lifecycle Surveys

Onboarding and exit are key moments in the employee experience. Using Lifecycle Surveys gives you a structured way to collect honest and relevant feedback during these moments.

What are Lifecycle Surveys?

Lifecycle Surveys in Eletive are designed to help you collect feedback from employees during two important stages of their journey: when they join and when they leave the organization. These surveys help you better understand how onboarding experiences can be improved, and what reasons may be behind employee turnover.

You’ll find two survey types under Lifecycle Surveys:

  • Onboarding survey – sent to new hires to understand how they experienced the start of their employment.

  • Exit survey – sent to employees who are leaving, to gather insights into their reasons for leaving and overall experience.

Both survey types are always available and can be distributed to selected groups when needed.

The onboarding survey helps you:

  • Understand how new employees experience their first weeks

  • Identify gaps in role clarity, support, and integration

  • Make improvements to ensure smoother onboarding processes

The exit survey helps you:

  • Understand why employees are leaving

  • Spot patterns related to disengagement or organizational challenges

  • Use feedback to improve retention and the overall employee experience

How does it work?

  • Two separate survey types – onboarding and exit – each with their own dedicated reporting pages.
  • Question types include:

    • Rating scale (1–5)

    • Open text

    • Net Promoter Score (NPS)

Surveys remain open and do not need to be relaunched between each cycle. You can also configure anonymity settings.

How aggregation and anonymity work in Lifecycle Surveys

In Lifecycle Surveys, results are aggregated by calendar month rather than by individual survey send-outs. This means that if an onboarding survey is triggered on April 23, the data will appear under the date 2025-04-01 in the trend graph. If another survey is triggered on May 15, the data point will show as 2025-05-01. This monthly aggregation makes it easier to identify trends over time.

To protect employee anonymity, results are only displayed when the minimum segment size has been reached. If the number of responses for a segment is below the set threshold during a calendar month, no results will be shown for that period.

Note: Minimum segment size for Lifecycle Surveys can be set to 1, this setting is configured specifically for Lifecycle Surveys and can be different from the one used for Engagement Surveys.

Summary

Lifecycle Surveys give you a simple and structured way to work with onboarding and exit feedback in Eletive. With dedicated flows and reporting, it’s easier to follow up on insights, improve your people processes, and support a more engaging employee experience from start to finish.
